OpenEXR Color management

By default, DuME considers OpenEXR files to be standard Linear RGB / Linear Rec.709. If this is actually the case with your files, you don’t have anything to do.

Input settings

Color management is made using OpenColorIO (OCIO). Don’t forget to set the correct OCIO config in the application settings. The, to set the correct interpretation and color conversion:

  1. Select the Color conversion mode, either Set view transform or Set output color space, according to the way you’re using your OCIO Config.
The screenshot above shows the selection for standard ACEScg conversion.
  2. Set the Input color space and other corresponding options.
  3. If the resulting output color space is not a standard linear RGB / Rec.709, you’ll have to set the correct Color interpretation. Either select a standard preset, or use your own details for the primaries, transfer curve, etc.
Note that this option doesn’t do any color conversion, all conversions are made with OCIO. It is just a way to tell DuME what to expect after the color conversion to further handle the data in the graph and encoding.

OpenEXR files with color conversion are pre-rendered before going into the graph and the encoding process. Pre-rendering can be tweaked,

Convert EXR Colors

Select the Tools / Convert EXR Files entry to open the Convert EXR tool.

DuME opens a side panel showing options similar to the input settings with OpenEXR sequences.

Select a single frame from the input EXR sequence and set a destination for the output, then adjust the color conversion settings as described in the previous section about the EXR input settings.

DuME converts the colors using OCIO and saves a new OpenEXR sequence.
