VP8 / VP9 (WebM)
VP8 and VP9 are video formats specifically made for the .webm
(WebM) container, an open media file format for the web.
It’s one of the very few consumer formats which can store transparency.
DuME comes with a few presets to make it easier to use:
- WebM is a standard, high-quality output.
- WebM Alpha is the same with transparency.
- WebM Fast is tweaked for faster encoding (VP9 is a pretty slow), resulting in slightly larger files.
- WebM Alpha Fast is the same as the former, with transparency.
- WebM High compatibility uses the On2 VP8 enconder instead of Google VP9, but can’t store transparency.
Note
The WebM container can use two audio formats: either Opus or Ogg Vorbis. DuME uses Opus by default.
Settings
Select the .webm
container, then either the Google VP9
or On2 VP8
codecs. Note that On2 VP8
in’t compatible with transparency.
The Quality and encoding settings are similar as those of h.264 / h.265, except the Fine tune option which is used to further adjust the encoding speed vs quality ratio.
When using Google VP9
, you can choose to keep Transparency / Alpha.
